Photo Challenge: Scarlet

Time for another challenge at Project 64: Out of the Box.  Each week a random crayon is chosen from a 64 count box of Crayola Crayons.  That color is used as inspiration for the week, the challenge is to find and photograph the weekly color in the world around us.  This week the color is scarlet.
To me, scarlet is a bright red but the Crayola crayon is more of a orangy-coral red.
I had a hard time capturing this color....until I put my crayon down next to the fruit basket and noticed that this apple matched it perfectly.

Edited to add:  This is a Jonagold apple:

  1. I know the orange tint in scarlet threw me off too. I like your interpretation of the color!!

  2. Great photo. The crayon is tricky, because it's almost pink when colored on paper. So weird! Thanks for being part of P64.

  3. Is that a fuji apple? Mmm...looks good enough to eat! Beautiful capture!

  4. a very nice match, the scarlet from the box is definetly more orange than the color that comes to mind, but you did a nice job matching the color! Thanks for linking up with p64!

  5. This my first time participating in this challenge and I see that what I really need to do, is go and get me a box of those crayons, then I will know for sure what the colour is suppose to look like! This one looks like a perfect match in deed! Good job and great shot! :)

  6. Great match for scarlet. Is that a Gala?

  7. That apple sure looks good no matter what variety it is.
    Great capture of scarlet.

  8. Thanks for the compliments! The apple is a Jonagold:

  9. I found Scarlet to be a little deceiving this week too. I think you found a perfect match. There's a blog I think you would like. It's called and is hosted by a bloggy friend of mine. Check it out. She loves accepting new photos of coffee!
